Authorities have arrested a 30-year-old Tennessee man, Jacob Shaffer, in connection with the killing of six people including 2 juveniles — five in Tennessee and one in Alabama, according to CNN.
Sheriff Murray Blackwelder, of Lincoln County described the slayings “one of the worst crimes Lincoln County has ever seen.”
It made me think of the recent rash of “worst crimes…ever seen” and how that trend seems to be growing.
The 8 Cowards accused of gunning down the Florida, Gulf Coast couple followed the slayings of 5 victims in South Carolina at the hands of a Serial killer, kicking off the deadly month of July.
Do you ever wonder if senseless brutality and murder desensitize the general population? Do we hear of these horrific crimes, suffer a bit of momentary revulsion and then simply go on about our day? These crimes, and the criminals that commit them, shouldn’t be purged from our memory simply because they are to disgusting and to scary to focus on.
When I first wrote, “How low can we go on the new human low scale?” I did so to keep these stories alive, if you will. I did so in hopes of continually building a case for the permanent removal of “defective” criminals from our streets and communities.
